The Free Software Foundation’s Expert Witness Defense Fund, created in conjunction with Recording Industry v The People, is in dire need of additional funds.

Ray Beckerman says the fund has provided critical expert reports in both UMG v Lindor and Capital v Thomas.

For instance, in Lindor, Prof. Johan Pouwelse reamed the work of RIAA witness Dr. Doug Jacobson, finding that Jacobson’s work “lacked in-depth analysis … [and] proper scientific scrutiny” and that Media Sentry’s techniques were untested and overly simplistic.

Similarly, Prof. Yongdae Kim found in Thomas that Media Sentry’s allegations are “highly suspect” and that Jacobson’s analogies that the Internet is like the postal system, or alternatively, like zip codes are dangerously simplistic.

Maybe the artists themselves
will cough up some of the dough to defend their fans from the moneygrubbers who stole all their dues.
