McKinnon will plead guilty to stay in UK

Gary McKinnon, the British systems analyst who broke into 97 military and NASA computers (apparently in a search for extraterrestrials), may finally avoid extradition to the U.S. by pleading guilty to a U.K. charge of misuse of computers, the Telegraph reports.

That would pretty much put an end to U.S. efforts to extradite McKinnon to face up to 70 years on American charges.

Karen Todner, Mr McKinnon’s solicitor, has now written to the Director of Public Prosecutions to acknowledge her client’s guilt and make clear his willingness to face justice in Britain where the offence was committed, The Guardian reported. The CPS is said to be considering the matter.
