Online democracy: The People want to throw a shoe

Why should Iraqi journalists have all the fun? Ever since the infamous shoe incident, a number of online games have popped up allowing all of us to fling a shoe at President Bush as he departs office, TechRadar reports.

Sock and Awe boasts over 49 million shoes have knocked Bush in the head. Can you throw a shoe at Bush? is more cartoony and not quite as fun. In Sock and Awe, Bush’s face turns a refreshing shade of purple.

Sock and Awe was created by Alex Tew in a late-night pizza-and-beer development process. When the thing proved so popular that he was overwhelmed with server costs, he sold it on eBay for over £5,000 to a company named Fubra, according to Sky News.

“We built SockandAwe.com just for fun (and partly as a promo for our start-up, PopJam) but had no idea it would become quite so popular. So, now we are selling it because a) we don’t really know what to do with it, b) we can recover some of the hosting costs (plus pizza and beer costs!), and c) the money will be useful for our little four-man start-up,” he wrote on the auction page.
