Comcast rolls out Ultra service, keeps cut-off ceiling
So, yesterday, in the lapse of about an hour, I got 1) an email from Comcast flak Charlie Douglas on the rollout of the cable giant’s Extreme and Ultra Internet service to Boston and Philly and plans to extend to 10 major markets and 2) a call from Comcast inviting me to Comcast Blast. The latter would make my Internet speed “four times faster” then my present 4 megabit connection.
She didn’t say “in the best, theoretical case” nor did she warn me about the 250GB limit. And she didn’t tell me what the upstream limit is. But that 250GB limit is in effect for me and every user, even those on the super-high speed Extreme network. And there’s still no monitoring software to keep track.
The details on the DOCSIS 3.0 offerings (coverage at AP, Ars and News.com) which will reach into southern Jersey (near Philly) and southern N.H. (near Boston):
- Extreme 50, offering up to 50 Mbps of downstream speed and up to 10 Mbps of upstream speed at
$139.95/month. - Ultra, offering up to 22 Mbps of downstream speed and up to 5 Mbps of upstream speed at
$62.95/month.
There’s also Performance (12/2) and Performance Plus (16/2). That’s what I get Performance Plus.
