Bush signs online child protection bills

In addition to the Pro-IP Act, President Bush signed two other Internet-related bills, these related to kiddie porn and child predators.

The
Protect Our Children Act
requires Internet companies to report child pornography and forks over $320 million to the Justice Dept. to fight Internet crimes against kids.

The Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators Act requires sex offenders to provide all “Internet idenfitiers” to the the National Sex Offender Registry. The law takes care to prevent the disclosure of this information to the public but allows the Attorney General to disclose to social networking sites.

[S]ocial networking website may make a request of the Attorney General for, and the Attorney General shall provide promptly, information related to the identity of the individual that has registered the matched Internet identifier. This information is limited to the name, sex, resident address, photograph, and physical description.
