A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order against Real, suspending sales of RealDVD, NewTeeVee.com reported over the weekend. Hollywood studios had sought the injunction as part of a suit against Real’s DVD copying software.

The RealDVD website now says the product is “currently unavailable.”

Due to recent legal action taken by the Hollywood movie studios against us, RealDVD is temporarily unavailable. Rest assured, we will continue to work diligently to provide you with software that allows you to make a legal copy of your DVDs for your own use.

One victory for Real, though: The case was transferred from the Central District of California (based in L.A.) to the Northern District (in San Francisco or Oakland). That court may be more friendly to a Silicon Valley company.

I don't see any reason that the MPAA should be upset.  Letophoro | 10/07/08
